Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar made a rare comeback to Bollywood when she recorded a song for Madhur Bhandarkar's movie Jail. The 79 year old singing sensation whose voice has enthralled the audience for over six decades recorded a bhajan “Daata Sun, Maula Sun" composed by Shamir Tandon for the upcoming movie which stars Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead.

This is the first song recorded by Lata in almost two years after she recorded for Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii in 2007 and the tearful 'Luka Chupi' for Rang De Basanti She however denied that the song was inspired by 'Ae maalik tere bande hum' from V. Shantaram's Do Aankhen Barah Haath which was also shot on prisoners.

Lata had agreed to record for the song owing to her closeness with the Neil's grandfather and legendary Bollywood singer Mukesh whom she took as her brother. This is incidentally Lata's second association with Bhandarkar after Page 3. Jail stars Mugdha Godse in the female lead opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh and will be Bhandarkar's trademark eye opener for the society.
