Singer Jagjit Singh hospitalised due to brain haemorrhage

Popular Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh has been admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra, Mumbai on Friday after he suffered brain haemorrhage. According to doctors, the 70-year-old Ghazal King, who underwent a life-saving surgery at the hospital, is in a critical state and he is kept under observation in the ICU. His wife Chitra Singh is with him in the hospital.

Jagjit Singh was to perform Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi Ghazals at the Fever Unplugged Concert with fellow maestro from Pakistan Ghulam Ali at Shanmukhananda auditoriumin the city yesterday. But the organiser of the concert, Fever Entertainment had to replace him with singer Hariharan due to his sudden hospitalisation.

However, Jagjit Singh was born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Along with his wife Chitra Singh, who is another renowned Indian ghazal singer, he achieved several records in the Indian music in the 1970s and 1980s. He has also crooned songs for Movies like Sarfarosh, Tum Bin and Tarqeeb. He has more than 25 albums to his credit.
