Washington, (ANI): Universal Pictures will be bringing a biopic of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain to the big screen after snapping up the rights to a biography of the rocker penned by Charles Cross.

Universal has acquired rights to “Heavier Than Heaven," and has already roped in David Benioff to pen the script of the as-yet untitled drama.

Courtney Love is on board as executive producer along with her lawyer Howard Weitzman, reports Variety. Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, Ben Silverman and Graham Larson will produce. The movie is a co-production between Working Title and Reveille Motion Pictures. Cobain formed Nirvana in 1987 with bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl, the latter of whom now fronts the Foo Fighters. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1994.
