Washington (ANI): Rockstar Pete Doherty's scheduled sentencing for drugs possession has been postponed until next month. The West London Magistrates court decided to put back its verdict in the Doherty"s case after the beleaguered Babyshambles singer did not show up for the hearing. According to reports, Doherty could not attend the hearing because he has checked into rehab to overcome his drug problems.

He will now attend court instead on 2 October, when the court is expected to pronounce sentence on the singer for possessing class A drugs. The singer's lawyer, Sean Curran, said that his client was "quite serious" about receiving the appropriate treatment to kick his drug habit. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, the singer's lawyer, Sean Curran, said his client was "quite serious" about receiving the appropriate treatment to kick his drug habit.

"He's asked to go in [to rehab] and he's still there so he's trying," Contactmusic quoted him as telling the Daily Mirror. Doherty was arrested last month for breaching his bail conditions. He was arrested in London having been told to stay in Somerset, but was released because his case was not taken to court within a 24-hour deadline. Police charged the singer with possession of ketamine, heroin, crack and cannabis and driving offences in May, and sentencing has already been delayed on two occasions.
