Coldplay, Satriani reach settlement over plagiarism

Band
Coldplay
has
reportedly
reached
a
legal
settlement
with
guitarist
Joe
Satriani
over
a
plagiarism
lawsuit.
The
band
were
served
with
a
lawsuit
by
Satriani,
who
alleged
the
rockers
lifted
his
2004
instrumental,
"I
Just
Wanna
Fly," for
the
basic
melody
of
"Viva
La
Vida".
Both
the
parties
were
said
to
have
settled
the
matter,
and
copyright
infringement
lawsuit
has
been
dismissed,
reports
Contactmusic.
According
to
Billboard.com,
a
confession
of
any
wrongdoing
will
not
be
required
from
the
group,
who
have
always
denied
the
claims.
A
statement
from
the
Brits
said:
"If
there
are
any
similarities
between
our
two
pieces
of
music,
they
are
entirely
coincidental,
and
just
as
surprising
to
us
as
to
him." Both
sides
declined
to
comment
about
the
settlement.
