Pop legend Dave Dee passes away at 65

Dave Dee
London (ANI): Sixties pop legend Dave Dee has passed away following a long battle against prostate cancer. He was 65. He died 'peacefully' on January 9 at Kingston Hospital in Surrey, England, where he was admitted on New Year's Eve. The singer, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer nearly 10 years ago, had his family members at his bedside at the time of his death.

He is survived by his mother Betty, his children and by Lesley, his partner during his final two years. Despite being ill, he continued working with his group Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich almost up to his death. He was even scheduled to stage gigs in Britain and Germany until March.

The group had eight top 10 hits to its credit, which included the No 1 single The Legend of Xanadu in 1968 wherein the frontman famously cracked a bullwhip. Dave was to join the group on tour in December.

"We were flying to Antwerp in December. He got as far as the airport but was not well enough to get on the plane," the Daily Express quoted his childhood friend and fellow group member Tich as saying. "He was an amazing guy. Straight after he heard he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, we did a tour of Britain of 60-odd dates," Tich added.
