singer-songwriter
John
Martyn,
aged
60,
died
in
a
hospital
in
Ireland
on
Thursday
morning.
The
cause
of
his
death
has
not
been
revealed
as
yet.
"With
heavy
heart
and
an
unbearable
sense
of
loss
we
must
announce
that
John
died
this
morning," the
Daily
Express
quoted
a
statement
on
his
official
web
site.
Martyn
was
regarded
as
one
of
the
most
soulful
and
innovative
singer-songwriters
of
his
generation.
During
this
40-year
career,
he
took
out
20
studio
albums
and
worked
with
legendary
artistes
like
Eric
Clapton,
David
Gilmour
and
Phil
Collins.
He
was
recently
appointed
an
Officer
of
the
Order
of
the
British
Empire
(OBE)
in
the
2009
New
Year
Honours
list.
