The figure will be dressed in a white v-neck t-shirt, a sparkly black jacket, black ankle-length trousers, white socks, black loafers, and the famous single white glove similar to the one sported by Jackson''s brothers at his memorial service on Tuesday. Principal sculptor Stephen Mansfield worked on the waxwork with a team of 20 to create the statue of Jackson, who died aged 50 on June 25.
It took four months to make the statue, which will first be seen by 25 competition winners. The first fans to see the statue will also be able to watch archive footage of Jackson at sittings for previous waxworks, as well as video of him visiting the tourist attraction when on trips to the capital.
"Until recently we've had Michael depicted from his 'Bad' era and when he announced he was going to do tour dates in London we decided that, as this was the ultimate king of pop, we wanted a new figure as a tribute to an iconic star," the Telegraph quoted Liz Edwards, a spokeswoman for Madame Tussauds, as saying.
"The launch date has always been the same but now that he has passed away it seems even more fitting to unveil the new statue. He had an amazing relationship with Madam Tussauds and to do a celebratory figure seemed fitting, it just felt right," Liz added.
