Rihanna to appear as witness against Chris Brown

New York (ANI): Rihanna could appear at a hearing next month as a witness in the felony assault case against ex-beau Chris Brown. Yesterday, a judge decided to set Brown''s preliminary evidence hearing for June 22, and Rihanna''s lawyer told the New York Daily News that prosecutors have requested her attendance.

"The DA has indicated she will be subpoenaed to appear at the preliminary hearing," attorney Donald Etra said outside court. "At that time, the District Attorney will determine whether or not to use her as a witness," he added.

If she is called to testify, the 21-year-old would be subject to cross-examination by Brown''s lawyer, Mark Geragos, Etra said. "She will do what the law requires. There''s never been any question about that," Etra said."It''s clear that the preliminary hearing is going forward. She has agreed to do what the DA asks of her," he added.

Brown was charged with assault and making criminal threats in March after a row with his girlfriend. The pop star has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Brown faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
