Complications halted Dannii Minogue's home birth plan

Melbourne (ANI): Australian singer Dannii Minogue gave birth to baby boy Ethan at a Melbourne hospital after her home birth plan was halted at the 11th hour. The 38-year-old singer was taken to the Royal Women"s Hospital in a jiffy after complications arose midway during the planned home birth, reports News.com.au.

A brief statement issued by Minogue"s management welcomed Ethan"s birth and asked for privacy from paparazzi that was expected to flock to the hospital. “Kris Smith and Dannii Minogue are thrilled to announce the arrival of Ethan Edward Smith on 5th July, 2010," the statement said. “Mother and baby are doing well and dad is very proud," the statement added.

Doctors issued a warning when Minogue"s home birth plan surfaced saying that it increased the danger for both mother and baby. “It is better if first-time mothers don"t attempt a home birth or, if they do, they should be counselled about their risks and needs for transfer," Dr Ted Weaver said.
