Bob Dylan still going strong at 70

By Raymond Ronamai

Legendary singer and songwriter Bob Dylan celebrates his 70th birthday today (May 24) with millions of fans across the globe. With a musical career of over five decades to his credit, he has witnessed the rise and fall of many bands, singers and genres over the years. And he still continues to influence and entertain millions of people.

Dylan shot to fame in the summer of 1965 with the single “Like a rolling stone", which peaked at number two in the billboard charts. After that, there was no stopping the legendary rock-star, who delivered hits after hits, making him one of the most influential musicians of the century. Like everyone else, Dylan too has a few skeletons in his closet. He revealed that he used to take heroin when he was young but kicked it before it got over him.

In India, Shillong (Meghalaya) seems to be the place with the maximum Bob Dylan fan-base. Shillong has been celebrating his birthday for the past 39 years without fail. This spirit has been kept alive by Lou Majaw (also known as the 'Bob Dylan' of Shillong) and his band-mates, who regularly perform Dylan's songs on such occasions. This year, the legendary musician's 70th birthday is being held at a place called 'Music Peace Zone ' in Shillong, where Lou Majaw, along with many other artists from North East India, will perform to honour and celebrate the legend's birthday.
