John Lennon, former member of the Beatles band, signed the album on the day of his death as a competition prize. He was shot death by Mark Chapman outside his home at the Dakota building in 1980.
Memorabilia that have gone under the hummer include Jimi Hendrix's leather boots, guitar played by Pete Townshend, Dee Dee Ramone's quitar, Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell's platform shoes, and several others.
The solo album Double Fantasy, signed by John Lennon just hours before he was shot dead, was auctioned at Christie's sale in London and it fetched about five times its estimated price. It was expected to fetch between £4,000 and £5,000 but went up to £23,750.
