Santhanam's maiden production venture starring himself, Sethu and Power Star Srinivasan and VTV Ganesh, Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya (KLTA) is inspired by filmmaker-actor K Bhagyaraj's yesteryear superhit film Indru Poi Naalai Vaa. It is purely a comedy film directed by Manikandan.
With Karthi's Pongal release Alex Pandian getting thumbs down from critics and audience, Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya is eagerly awaited by Tamil audience hoping that the film would be the perfect film to enjoy in during the festive time. Being the first production of Santhanam, the most sought after comedian in Tamil film industry, people are expecting nothing but a complete fun entertainer from the Handmade Films. With the names of Srinivasan, VTV Ganesh in the cast, the audience are looking out for a fun-filled flick, which could tickle the funny bones.
Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya is about three men who try to woo a woman - like in the original story Indru Poi Naalai Vaa. But the treatment is different in the Santhanam's film. The basic knot of both the films sound similar but the story and screenplay are completely different. The three careless friends - Santhanam, and Sethu love the same girl played by Vishakha Singh. Their tricks to impress her to win her heart is the crux of the story. The story is not new and it is old wine in new bottle. However, the film is an out and out comedy entertainer. The first half of the film is brilliant and second half is full of fun.
Santhanam is hilariously brilliant in Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya. His mannerism and one-liners get full marks once again. He is well supported by the Power Star, as he is simply excellent. It has to be mentioned here about his introductory scene which takes audience by storm. And also Sethu is good. Thanks to director Manikandan, who has taken the best out of all three of them. In fact, Santhanam and the Power Star's performances remain biggest strength of the film.
Vishaka is okay and supporting cast like VTV Ganesh, Kovai Sarala, and others have done justice. Last but not least, Gautham Menon and Simbu have done guest appearance.S Thaman's music is okay and 'Love letter...' and 'Potti...' are our picks and Balasubramaniem's cinematography is apt. Rest other departs have done justice. Finally, the director has to be praised for churning out a humorous film.
Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya is a fun ride.
