Karnan Story

Karnan is a Tamil action drama movie, directed by Mari Selvaraj. The cast of Karnan includes Dhanush, Sandakozhi-fame Lal, Rajisha Vijayan debut actress from Malayalam and Yogi Babu. The produced by Kalaipuli S Dhaanu under his banner 'V Creations'. Karnan will have music by Santhosh Narayanan. This is Santhosh's second collaboration with Mari and his third venture with Dhanush after Kodi and Vada Chennai.

Story

The story portrays, a fearless village youth, must fight for the rights of the people of his village. The people of the village belong to a marginalised community that has been oppressed for decades, mainly by the dominant caste groups in the region aided by the government officials and the police who intend to keep them suppressed under their shoes.

Release

Shooting of the film took place in the suburbs of Thoothukudi district from 2019 and was completed on December 2020; although production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was theatrically released on 9 April 2021. Karnan began streaming on Prime Video from 14 May 2021.

Box office

Karnan registered ₹10.40 crore at the box office, which marked Dhanush's highest opening in his career.Despite 50% occupancy limit, the film earned ₹25.60 crores during the opening weekend, due to the positive word-of-mouth. In total, the movie collected 63 crore for 3 days at box office.
