Naanum Rowdy Thaan (aka) Naanum Rowdydhaan is a Tamil comedy - romantic movie directed by Vignesh Shivan, in his second venture after Podaa Podi. The film features Vijay Sethupathi and Nayantara in the lead roles. Produced by actor Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films, the film features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Vijay Sethupathi's only ambition is to become a rowdy which contradicts with his mother's (Raadhika) dream of making him a police officer.
He manages to become a self-made ruffian and that's when he meets Nayantara who comes seeking his help, only to realize that he is not an actual rowdy but a fake.
When Vijay falls in love with her, he learns that her only aim is to eradicate Parthiepan. What is the reason behind her rage? Can Nayantara and Vijay Sethupathi kill a fierce person like Parthiepan? These questions are answered in the film which forms the crux of this plot.
R J Balaji plays a character of Vijay Sethupathi's friend and Parthiban as a terrific villain along with Anand Raj, Azhalagam Perumal and Radhika Sarathkumar.
The film was subsequently officially announced by producer Gautham Menon in November 2013, who revealed that they had signed on Gautham Karthik to feature in the leading role, while Anirudh would retain his position as composer. Lavanya Tripathi was signed on to play the female lead role of a deaf girl and noted that she was impressed by Vignesh Shivan's narration of the script.
On 29 August 2014, Vinayagar Chathurthi, in a turn of events, Dhanush announced via Twitter that he would be producing the film under his Wunderbar Film banner and also posted details about the cast and crew and the title design. While the principal crew was retained, the lead roles went to Vijay Sethupathi and Nayantara.
