Paradesi Story
Paradesi movie was inspired from Malayalam novel 'Eriyum Thanal'. The movie deals with the trials and tribulations that a couple working in a tea estate undergoes to raise their son. Adharva has proved himself as an actor in this film. He underwent enormous difficulties. Dhanshika and Vedhika have given their best. 'Paradesi' shoot was finished in 90 day. Music by G V Prakash Kumar. This time he works with new team and now the ecpectation is more. While Vedhika and Dhanshika too are equally thrilled, G V Prakash Kumar, Vairamuthu who has also joined hands with Bala for the first time. Starring Atharvaa, Dhanshika and Vedhika in the lead roles, the film is based on real life incidents that took place before independence in the 1930s. The audio was launched in style at a grand function in Chennai and song's lyrics come out with a touching the script Adharva has proved himself as an actor in this film. The Movie movie was censored with "U" certificate with no cuts. It means it is eligible for Nation Awards.

Maverick filmmaker and National Award winning director Bala has delivered hit after hit in his 13 years career in Tamil film industry. His ability to churn out good scripts has always ensured him success. Though his movies have off-beat content, it has never failed to keep the cash registers ringing. Now, the filmmaker is back with his latest movie Paradesi. The interesting part of the movie is that he has chosen yet-to-be-established actors Adharvaa and Dhansika. Generally, the roles are serious and intense in nature and youngsters will obviously find it difficult to live up to his expectations.
And his selection of Adharvaa and Dhansika have surprised many in the industry. However, popular actress Vedhika is also part of the cast. Paradesi is based on real life incidents that occurred pre-independence in the 1930s. In fact, the film is the screen-adaptation of 'Eriyum Panikadu' a Tamil translation of the 1969 novel Red Tea by Paul Harris Daniel. The flick mainly deals with a tea plantation workers in the Madras Presidency during the British Raj.
How Bala has adapted the story into motion pictures? How he has managed to bring the best out of his actors? Will the movie be a milestone film in his career? People in power always treated poor very badly and Bala tries to bring it as realistically as possible on-screen. The story is set in 1930s and shows the condition of poor tea plantation workers. And also throws light on the lifestyle of ordinary carefree workers and how their freedom was hijacked by the people in power. The director constructs the story in a brilliant manner with no room for fiction elements in the narration.
First of all, audience should enter the cine halls without any expectations and clear there pre-conceived thoughts of enjoying the movie. It is a true Bala's film and if you are a fan of the director, you would rate it the best work of him till date. The highlight of the story is that Bala has not hesitated to tell that everybody including rulers and Christian missionaries had only one goal of making people slaves.
Bala has tried his best to tell the story with all commercial ingredients but the director misses out the grip to keep the audience attention at parts. Nonetheless, the intensity in the characters and well-adopted scenes will make you forget the boring moments in the movie.
Performance wise, Bala has brought the best out of his characters once again. His main roles - Atharva, Dhansika and Vedhika have done complete justice to their roles. In fact, they have given their lives to the roles and impresses audience with varied expressions. Artistes like Uma, Udhay Karthik and others have given their best.
GV Prakash's music for the movie is rich. 'Seneerthana' is our pick of the album for the soul-stirring voice of Gangai Amaren and hard-hitting lyrics. Chezhiyan's cinematography could not have been better as the cameramen has perfectly stood by Bala as his pillar. Art direction department should have to be praised as it recreates those era.
Verdict: Paradesi is a brilliant made movie but the lack of commercial elements will not guarantee the success. Nonetheless, the film will be loved by Bala's fans!.
