Pencil is a Tamil film directed by debutante Mani Nagaraj and produced by S. P. Ragavesh. Mani Nagaraj was a former assistant director to Gautham Vasudev Menon. The film features
G. V. Prakash Kumar and
Sri Divya in the lead roles, with the former also composing the film's music.
Pencil Plot:
GV Prakash's enmity with a fellow student, played by Shariq Hassan, is well documented in his school as the two, after several petty fights, end up exchanging full-fledged blows.
To GV Prakash's shock, Shariq Hassan is later found murdered in his class room. Understandably, Prakash becomes a prime suspect in the case.
Rest of the film revolves around how GV Prakash, with the help of his friend, played by Sri Divya, solves the mystery behind the murder.
Production
In October 2013, it was announced that music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar would make his debut as an actor with Mani Nagaraj's Pencil, a school based thriller film. The team initially approached Samantha and then Priya Anand however both were unable to sign on, due to their busy filming schedule, and subsequently Sri Divya was recruited to portray the lead female role.
Still photographs from the film's initial photo shoot were released to the media in November 2013, earning positive reaction from critics. Shariq, son of actors Riyaz Khan and Uma Riyaz, was also featured in the photo shoot and was announced to make his acting debut with a supporting role in the film.
Soundtrack
G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the soundtrack, which consists of 8 tracks including 4 songs, 3 karaoke tracks and 1 reprise. The album was released on February 19, 2015.
