Saivam is an upcoming Tamil film written, directed and produced by A. L. Vijay. The film features Nassar in the lead role and child actress Sara Arjun plays another pivotal role, while the director's regular crew of cinematographer Nirav Shah and composer G. V. Prakash Kumar also worked on the project.
"Saivam is about family values and about instill lost family traditions into the audiences, Kathiresan (Nasser) is a respectable person living in Kottaiyur Village. He stays rooted in the village since he does not want to depart from traditional life style and farming. One of his sons, along with his wife and daughter Tamilselvi (Baby Sara) accompanies his parents in the village.
The other children of Kathiresan who have settled outside the village visit their native after three years on the occasion of 'Oor Thiruvizha'. When everyone in the family keeps enjoying the reunion, an ill omen reminds Kathiresan and his wife about a 'Nerthikadan' (promise to God to offer something in return for a favor) that is pending for long.
Kathiresan and family members unanimously decide that the long pending 'Nerthikadan' has caused so many difficulties for each of them and decide to offer the rooster 'Pappa', that is being nurtured in Kathiresan's house, to the Lord 'Karuppu 'during the 'Oor Thiruvizha'.
Tamilselvi who has abundant care for animals and shares a deep bonding with 'Pappa' wants to save him. Does she succeed in her attempts and convince her family members to go against the 'Nerthikadan'? to be watched on big screen.
Vijay revealed that after the completion of Thalaivaa (2013), he would work on a rural based subject featuring child actress Sara Arjun of Deiva Thirumagal fame in the lead role.
Most of the team's technical crew including the composer G. V Prakash and the cinematographer, Nirav Shah, worked without taking any remuneration for the film as an ode to their friendship with Vijay.
The first look poster of the film, featuring a rooster, was released on 16 November 2013 indicating that the film's production was underway.
Then announced that the son of actor Nassar, Luthfudeen, would make his acting debut in the film and would have the stage name of Baasha. He would appear alongside another debutant, Twara Desai, while Nassar himself would play Baasha's grandfather in the film.
Nassar shaved off his hair to appear bald head in the movie and Pattanam Rasheed worked on his make up for the film.
