Thalaivaa Story

Thalaivaa is an tamil Action-Drama-Thriller movie. The movie features Ilayathapalthy Vijay is male lead role and Amala Paul is female lead role in this movie. The movie is directed by A L Vijay and G V Prakash Scoring the music. The film is also being dubbed into telugu as Anna- Born to Lead.

Thalaivaa, is the story of comman man who rises to a leader.

Vijay was impressed by the movie Madrasapattinam (A.L Vijay previous movie) and contacted the movie director for a new project. A. L. Vijay later narrated the Thalaivaa story to Vijay and he agreed to play the role within fifteen minutes. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Yami Gautam were initially approached for the lead female role. 

Later Amala Paul was selected. Vijay Yesudas was reported to be finalized for antagonist role in this film. Sathyaraj was also selected to be a part of this film. A. L. Vijay's brother Udhaya has been selected to feature in a prominent role. G. V. Prakash Kumar will be the music director while Nirav Shah will crank the camera. R.K. Naguraj has been enrolled as art director. Santhanam plays comedy role in different style.

Filming

The muhurta of the film was held in Chennai on November 16, 2012. The first schedule began in Mumbai from November 23, 2012. The title song "Thalaivaa Thalaivaa" was shot in Mumbai with 500 junior artists. A major portion of the film was shot in Australia. The first look and title was revealed on January 14, 2013. 

Additional posters were released on January 26, 2013. Shootings were stopped, due to release controversies around Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam expressing their support for Haasan, shootings were only to resume after the release of his film in Tamil Nadu.

As of February 8, 2013, 50 percent of total shootings were completed, with stunt scenes conducted by Stunt Silva. A last shooting schedule in Australia was completed by April 24. They shot scenes at the Bondi Beach in New South Wales. It was revealed that Vijay would portray a leader of a dance group based in Australia. Vijay would be seen performing dance styles of different genres including tap dancing.

Music

The soundtrack features five songs and two theme music tracks. The soundtrack is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar and the lyrics are by Na. Muthukumar, both teaming with A. L. Vijay for the fifth time. This was also G. V. Prakash's first collaboration with actor Vijay. One song had been sung by Vijay "Vaanganna Vakkangana" song alongside with Santhanam.

Release

Initially Thalaivaa movie got "U/A" certificate from censor board and production house ask for revise the certificate. Revising Committee clears movie with 'U' certificate subject to some minor cuts.

Thalaivaa distribution rights for the US and Canada territory were bought by Bharat Creations. Ayngaran International acquired the overseas rights for Thalaivaa Tamil Nadu rights were bought by Vendhar Movies and Kerala rights by Thameens via vendhar movies. The music rights were sold to Sony Music. Prior to Vijay's birthday on June 21 a theatrical film trailer was released by Sony Music India on their YouTube channel. 

Trailer got 1 million views in 32 hours and 2 million views within 10 days on YouTube after its release. Satellite rights has been bagged by Sun TV. The film is scheduled to release on 9 August 2013 Coinciding Eid-Ramazan.

Thalaivaa's story resembles the story of SS Kandaswamy and his son SK Ramaswamy, who were the social workers in Mumbai and who saved the Tamil youths becoming anti-social elements. SKR Karnan is the grandson of SS Kandaswamy and son of SK Ramaswamy, he claimed that his grandfather and his father were not involved in any underworld activities, but they were loved by people for their service. 

And Movie Theatre owners received letters threatening that bomb would be set off if they screen Thalaivaa. As soon as they received the threatening letters, theatre owners from Chennai and Chenagalpet stopped the advance booking and decided not to release the movie.

Theatre Owners Association sought the government help to release the movie, and they also demanded government to provide police security for all the cinema halls, without which the movie will not be screened.

Later, actor Vijay clarified that Thalaivaa has got nothing to do with politics, it is a family entertainer with comedy, romance and action.

Then Government officials the watch the movie and cleared. The set to release on August 20th '13 in Tamil Nadu.
