The DMK Chief and Chief Minister of Tamilnadu MK Karunanidhi announced that a new television channel, Kalaignar TV by name, would be launched on the coming Independence by the party. The new channel's logo will be that of the Rising Sun, symbol of the party. According to his announcement, the new channel will be people friendly and will co-ordinate with the party &Government and broadcast the right information to the people of the state.
Today Karunanidhi talked to the media persons regarding the launch of his new channel. He said, "We will launch a new satellite channel to fulfill the need to equip the people of the state with right and timely information. The channel will be launched on August 15th , the coming Independence Day. The official announcement of the launch will be on the 3rd of June. The finalization of the broadcasting schedule of the channel is currently going on. Many experts in the field have engaged to get the schedule finalized". He added. "However, the DMK will not interfere in the administration and other telecasting schedules of the channel. The Raj TV Group will run the channel on the behalf of the party. We have already sent our application through required channels to the ministry of Information and Technology.
Putting aside rumours, the media people started to say that the channel is 'Kalaignar's TV'. The name may be mine but the programmes will not be party oriented at all. Many have approached me to telecast a show on the channel on which public grievances could be aired and solutions given on the spot. These things are possible in films only. I strongly believe that nobody will be able to run the government via a TV channel. We can only use the medium of television to inform the public of our plans and initiatives.
Further clearing the air, he said, "Regarding Sun TV's exit from Arivalayam, many have thought that I have ordered them to exit from the premises of the DMK headquarters. There is no truth in this. They can retain the office as long as they wish to retain it. Being a corporate company, they are paying the rent and maintenance charges properly. There is no need for any further complaints regarding their accommodation in Arivalayam.''
Sarath Kumar, an experienced hand from Sun TV, has taken the charge as the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the Channel. He plans to telecast 9 news bulletins per day apart from regular soap operas, film related shows and serials.
