Veteran Actress Kushboo will play the most prestigious role of Mother in the Tamil version of Maxim Gorky's revolutionary Novel, 'The Mother', translated and scripted for cinema by Kalaignar Karunanithi. The film is titled as Thai kaavyam (Epic of The Mother) directed by newcomer Paali Srirangam.
Earlier the role of Mother was offered to Radhika Sarathkumar, a long time associate to Kalaignar's family. But for some reasons Radhika has been opted out from the project and now the same has given to Kushboo. P.A. Vijay, the known lyricist of Kollywood is making his debut as Hero in this film.
The formal launch of the film was held at AVM Rajeshwari Cinema Hall at the AVM Campus, Vadapazhani today. The Chief Minister of Tamil Naadu Dr. M.Karunanithi attended the event and launched the film. In his speech, Kalaignar told, "Thai Kaaviyam will become a perfect launch pad to Vijay for his new career as a Hero. The film is very apt to the present trend and social set up and I hope Vijay will shine in the role of 'Pawel' like a pole star. Kushboo plays the role of Pawel's Mother. I had seen her excellent performance in Periyar as Maniyammai. I hope she will give a new dimension to this role... "
Kalaignar also remembered his past when he was busy in the filmdom and how censor officers became hurdles to his movies. According to him, in those days the censor officials mostly allowed his films (with late legend MGR like Naam, Kanchi Thalaivan) to be screened only after editing his revolutionary dialogues.
He said: "Nowadays the censor board officers certify the films with sense and freeness. But in those days, they were big hurdles to the film industry. Some of the officers even came to the screening room with scissors to cut the film on the spot…!"
Veteran Directors K. Balachander, Bharathiraaja, K. Bhagyaraaj, K. S. Ravikumar, Poet Vaali, AVM Saravanan are the others attended the function. Actress Kushboo also shared the podium with Kalaignar in the function.
Earlier a Jewellry Shop owner from Tanjore had paid a Cheque for Rs.50 lakhs and wished to join as a co-producer in Thai Kaaviyam project.
