Veteran artist Radhika Sarath Kumar has been to play the powerful role of Powell's Mother in Kalaignar's translated version of Maxim Gorky's revolutionary novel 'The Mother'. Karunanidhi has translated this novel as a series which was being published in a weekly as 'Thai Kaviyam' a few years ago. Now it will be made into a movie and leading poet Pa Vijay is playing the lead role Powell. Karunanidhi will also taking care of the story, screenplay and script of the film. He will pay personal attention to the film.

As the name suggests, the movie will have significance for the mother's role. While many names have been under scrutiny for this powerful role, the CM seems to have had his preference and already made up his mind on the matter as to who would be cast in the role.

Based on that, Radhika has been contacted and was informed of the CM's wish that she be given the role of Vijay's mother in Thai Kaviyam. Acting in a Kalaignar's film is not new to Radhika. She had already done the lead role in some of Kalaignar's hit films like Paasap Paravaigal and Paadatha Theneekkal. There are other leading actors in the films cast too.
