By By: Settu Shankar

Sathya Raj, the actor known for his versatile acting skills and easy to approach says that the year 2007 is an unforgettable period for him as well the whole industry. Sathya Raj, who has done the highest number of films in this year (Adavadi, Periyar, Kannamoochi Enada and Onbathu Roobai Nottu) owes to act in selective roles only in future.

Here are excerpts of his exclusive interview to oneindia.in on the eve of New Year 2008:

Share your experiences and views on year 2007…

It is really an unforgettable year for me. Not only for me, but the industry has also gained a lot in this year. Let me explain…

Making cinema on the life of Periyar, the great fighter of our time for social justice is my long term dream. It was fulfilled in this year with the help of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr Kalaignar. Every Tamil people should really thank him for his brave efforts and support to make this film. Almost I have got the ecstasy of my career by playing the role of Periyar. Many times I cursed myself for donning meaningless roles in the past. Now Periyar rectified my career graph. I also got a big reward for acting in this film. It is none other than the precious ring wearing by Periyar till his last breath. For me, it is the great award and recognition for my 27 year span career.

The other great film, I have done is Onbathu Roobai Nottu. In fact, the entire industry praised me for doing the role of Madhava Padayachi. For the first time in the history of Tamil Cinema, it is the only film which has shown to the public in a premiere without collecting a single penny. In fact, I was initially hesitated to do the role in Onbathu Roobai Nottu. But once I convinced with the superb novel written by writer-director Thankar Bachan, I had decided that that was my ground to play and show my strength.

Kannamoochi Enada also a good effort of Radhika and her unit. It is a perfect family entertainment which has done a fair business at the end of the year. Adavadi is yet another film, but as usual minimum guaranteed one.

The Industry gained a lot in this year. Superstar Rajini sir gave a historical Blockbuster Shivaji in this year only. No doubt, he is the one man industry and opened new gates to other hero's films too in overseas market.

Technically, our industry is developing year by year. In fact, Hindi film makers also love to work with most of our Tamil technicians and actresses. I hope Tamil actors too will get an opening soon in Bollywood.

And the more important thing is the number of film produced in Tamil is considerably increased in 2007. There were 105 films made in this year. It is really a big number in recent time. The flow of corporate companies in Tamil film industry made this number possible. More companies are expected to come into this field and I hope this number will be increased in the year 2008.

It seems that the competition among the stars has also became very healthy in this year and it shows the maturity they attained.

About your New Year oath and decisions, if any…

Intha nakkalthane venagarathu… (laughing). Nothing… don't try to get me in a spider's web. But seriously, I decided to stop acting in third class commercial films. At least I must be choosy in the selection of stories in future. After Kannamoochi Enada, I got nearly 8 offers with average masala stories. But I declined all the offers and reserved my dates for some good, meaningful cinema!

Thank you sir, we hope and wish you the New Year 2008 will fulfill all your ambitions!

Thank youma… My hearty wishes for a prosperous New Year to all the readers and viewers oneindia.in!
