Believe it or not... the magnum opus of superstar Rajini starrer Shivaji is going to be released with just ten prints in a state where he actually hails from. Don't worry... it is not Tamil Nadu or the USA. Yes... your guess is right, it is only in Karnataka!
The Karnataka distributor of Shivaji, H.D.Gangaraju who is also a close friend of Rajini, disclosed this shocking news yesterday.
Gangaraju said that he has paid Rs. 3.25 crores for the film's Karnataka and Bengalooru rights. Since the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has imposed restrictions on the non - Kannada films to be released with only 10 prints in the state, there is no other way for the distributor to show Shivaji in larger number of theaters.
In Bengalooru, Shivaji will be screened in 13 theaters, with five prints in circulation. The remaining 5 prints will be sent to the other parts of the state. The distributor is hoping that he will get back his investment by increasing the ticket rates for the first few weeks. It has been decided to fix the ticket rates in the counters ranging from Rs.150 to 500.
The distributor and some of Rajini's well wishers have requested the chamber to relax the restrictions for Shivaji and allow it to be screened with at least 50 prints. Everybody is hoping that the chamber will consider this request at the last minute before the release of the film!
