Valee, the veteran lyricist and renowned Tamil poet, was presented the prestigious Padmashree award by the President of India Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam in New Delhi yesterday. It was presented to him by Dr. Kalam at a grand function held at the Rashtrapathy Bhavan. Valee, introduced by the late legend MGR, has worked with three generations of music directors, especially with MSV, Ilayaraja and Rahman. Valee is a sought-after name in Tamil film industry. He has penned more than a thousand songs, besides poems and novels. He also proved his acting talents in K.Balachander's Poikkal Kuthirai and Kamal's Hey Ram.

Valee said: 'It is a very great honour to a person like me. Awards and recognition are the two important aspects which always induce an artist to create more. There is a greater kick felt out of getting an award than it does in drinking wine. As a person who is experienced in the taste of both, I found this philosophy...' That is typical Valee!
