Lights Men on a lightning strike

By By : Settu Shankar

The lights man association of Tamil film industry has announced an indefinite strike since yesterday, due to which the shooting of 65 Tamil films held in Chennai and outdoor were stopped immediately.

The Light men connected to the South India Cine&TV Outdoor Technicians Union are at loggerheads with the producers over increasing their daily wages. The Union is demanding a hike in their daily wages from Rs 225 to Rs 500, while the producers are only willing to increase it by 50 percent and more to Rs 350.

The Tamil Film Producers' Council considers it unreasonable by any standards to ask for a 125 percent increase in conveyance.

The union people say certain producers were willing to give an increase, but they too have been suppressed by the producers' council.

The Union also announced its displeasure over the activities of FEFSI president Vijayan, and declared their non-co-operation to him.
