"Ella pugazhum Iraivanukee" is what A.R. Rahman said in Tamil after accepting his first Oscar award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences 81st edition for the best original score in Slumdog Millionaire.

Translated it means "May all praise be for the Almighty" and this is what the music maestro always says after receiving an award.

After thanking God, he turned to his mother, who had accompanied him to the ceremony there and said,"There is a dialogue from an old Hindi film - "Mere paas maa hai" - which means I have my mother. My mother is here, I have her blessings. I am glad she could be here."

Rahman picked up two of the coveted awards for the best original score and the best original song "Jai ho..." from the film with lyrics by Gulzar and Sukhwinder Singh as the lead singer.

The state legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu has praised Rahman as the proud son of the Tamil Nadu. The Cheif Minister of Tamil Nadu M.Karunanidhi has also hailed Rahman as a rare genius of the country who deserves many more awards like Oscar.
