Set in backdrops of 1930s, the book centers on Devan, an ordinary clerk, who solves crime on fluke. The movie was supposed to feature Ajith Kumar in lead role. But the duo parted ways due to creative difference and Surya is reported have replaced Ajith.
Apart from his own directorial, the filmmaker is busy producing couple of films – Veppam and Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai. Veppam is directed by newcomer Manju, once an associate of director Gautham Menon while Susindran handles direction for Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai.
