Tamil
film
industry
has
opened
up
a
new
page
in
the
history
of
Indian
cinema
this
year.
According
to
reports
in
the
media,
a
total
number
of
150
films
have
been
produced
from
Kollywood
in
the
year
2010,
a
number
which
was
never
before
achieved
in
the
history
of
Kollywood
cinema.
While
this
fact
on
the
one
hand
has
made
the
filmmakers
and
actors
of
Tamil
cinema
happy,
the
producers
and
distributors
of
the
films
have
not
stopped
complaining
because
a
huge
percentage
of
Tamil
films
released
in
the
year
2010
have
failed
to
bring
box
office
returns.
An
expert
from
the
industry
has
revealed
in
a
statement
to
the
media
that
as
many
as
63
films
out
of
the
150
released
this
year
have
failed
to
cross
the
25lakhs
mark
in
total
earning
from
theaters,
a
fact
which
requires
a
lot
of
attention
because
in
spite
of
the
loss
of
money
that
producers
and
distributors
have
seen
this
year,
the
actors
of
Kollywood
have
refused
to
compromise
with
their
fees
from
each
film.
This
is
an
established
fact
in
Kollywood
that
the
flops
in
an
actor"s
career
increases,
but
his
fees
do
not
decrease!
However,
a
good
development
noticed
in
Kollywood
this
year
is
the
growing
popularity
of
films,
which
are
good
in
content,
rather
than
only
superstar
driven.
A
good
example
of
this
fact
is
the
Mani
Ratnam
film
Raavanan,
which
though
boasted
of
good
actors,
failed
to
strike
gold
at
the
box
office.
Hope
the
year
2011
too
sees
more
content-driven
films
being
produced
from
Kollywood.
