The
death
of
versatile
actress
Sujatha
has
left
the
regional
film
industries
in
grief.
It
has
shocked
her
fans.
The
actress,
who
made
the
audience
to
cry
with
her
emotional
roles,
has
acted
in
over
300
films
in
variety
of
characters
in
different
languages.
Sujatha
was
born
on
10th
December
1952
in
Srilanka.
She
spent
her
childhood
in
the
island
nation
and
participated
in
stage
plays.
She
entered
the
film
industry
by
doing
a
small
role
in
Malayalam
movie
Ernakulam
Junction
in
the
year
1971.
Her
biggest
break
came
in
the
form
of
Aval
Oru
Thodar
Kathai,
which
was
directed
by
K
Balachander
in
1974.
The
actress
paired
Kamal
Hassan
in
the
film
and
her
performance
received
rave
reviews.
The
success
of
the
women-oriented
film
brought
her
under
the
limelight
and
instantly
she
was
showered
with
offers
from
many
film
industries.
Since
then,
the
actress
acted
with
many
South
Indian
stars
like
Rajinikanth,
Sivaji
Ganeshan,
Vijaykumar,
NTR,
Akkineni
Nageshwara
Rao
etc.,
as
the
leading
lady
in
their
films.
But
after
her
marriage,
the
actress
switched
for
character
artiste
roles.
She
was
seen
in
mother
roles
in
the
later
half
of
her
career.
Her
last
film
in
Tamil
was
Varaluru
in
2006,
where
she
played
the
role
of
Asin
Thottumkal's
mother
in
the
film.
In
her
three
decades
journey,
Sujatha
has
received
various
awards,
including
prestigious
Kalai
Mamani
Award
from
the
state
Government.
Sujatha
died
of
heart
attack
yesterday
(April
6,
2011)
at
her
residence.
She
is
survived
by
by
husband
Jayakar,
son
Sajid
and
daughter
Divya.
