South superstars Vikram and Surya, who always love to do different
kinds of role, are in the race for Mani Ratnam's next film
Ponniyin Selvan. The ace director is considering one of
them for the key role in the mega-budget film.
Mani Ratnam has already roped in Vijay and Mahesh Babu to
portray the roles of Vandiyathevan, Adithya Karikalar from the
historical novel. Now, the director is hunting for the title role,
Ponniyin Selvan. The title is the sobriquet given to
Rajakesari Varman aka Arulmozhi Varman for one of the greatest
emperors of the Tamil Chola Empire.
Sources have said that the director is keen to cast either
Vikram or Surya, as he thinks that one of them can perfectly fit
the bill. However, The movie is the screen-adaptation of the Tamil
historical novel 'Ponniyin Selvan', which was written by Kalki
Krishnamurthy. Ilaiyaraaja will be scoring the music and it will be
produced by Sun Pictures.
