The year 2012 has been a nightmare for many top actors as their much-expected films bombed at the Box Office. Like every year, there were many surprise winners, which were low-budget flicks without any expectation but won the hearts of the audience.

Nanban and Vettai started the year 2012 on the positive note as these films did good business at Tamil Box Office. In February, Siddharth's low-budget film Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi emerged as hit of the month and the success of the movie gave hope for many young directors to concentrate on content than other factors.

However, in the next few months, a couple of small-budget film got thumbs up from audience and critics. But A-list actors had a tough time to impress cine-goers. Dhanush's 3, Ajith Kumar's Billa 2, Karthi's Saguni and Vikram's Thaandavam failed to meet the expectation of the audience. Jeeva's Mugamoodi and Surya's Maattraan had mixed response.
