Times of India - N Venkateswaran’s Rating: 3.5
Aishwarya R Dhanush shows sparks of brilliance in her directorial debut, and marks herself as a name to look out for in Tamil cinema. An actor at the peak of his craft, Dhanush doesn't break a sweat while portraying the two extremes of Ram, though his performance as a schoolboy in love is more entertaining and watchable than the changeover into a married man in the second half.
Rediff- Pavithra Srinivasan's Rating: 3
There are certain moments in 3 that defy logic at times, and sentiment rules the roost, but Aishwarya Dhanush has chosen to present a take on romance that is appealing in its freshness. The lead actors help as well. Her little thriller-twist aside, 3 is a movie that is an ode to romance, above all else.
DNA - L Romal M Singh’s Rating: 3
Be ready for a sob fest as emotions run wild, anger turns into rage and limits crossed in almost every scene. The storyline swings between poles and while it can be entertaining in terms of a performance, it can demand a lot of patience from a viewer, so be warned.
Oneindia - Prakash Upadhyaya’s Rating: 3
3 has a engaging tale backed by wonderful performances of Dhanush and Shruti Hassan.
CNN IBN Rating: 2.5
The director has attempted to show '3' phases of life. Because of the pitfalls in the third phase, the movie falls apart. Neither a joyous love story nor a serious movie, '3' actually stands in between.
Deccan Chronicle Rating: 2.5
3 is an attempt by debutante Aishwarya Dhanush to project what’s true to her heart — love stories and the social impact of teenage relationships. Dhanush in the lead role covers many a major drawback. There’s also the magic of Kolaveri Di which helps her get more audiences.
