Rajinikanth's birthday celebrations was held on Thursday (December 13) at the YMCA grounds at Royapettah, Chennai. The function was attended by many celebrities including voluptuous Namitha, who was the special guest at the event.

A day after his birthday, the function was organised by the South Indian Film Artistes' Association (SIFAA), also known as the Nadigar Sangam. Sarath Kumar, the President of the association, Radharavi, the secretary, Vaagai Chandrasekar, actor-director Pandiarajan and director P Vasu presided over the celebrations. Namitha's presence added glamour to the event.

Earlier, the function was planned at Valluvar Kottam but as the permission was denied at the last minute by the local authorities, the organisers shifted the venue to YMCA grounds. To mark the special birthday of the superstar, the Nadigar Sangam arranged the birthday function. Rajini, who is not attending much public events, agreed to come after Sarath Kumar and Radha Ravi personally requested him.

Namitha, who had once said that she was ready to act with Rajinikanth without even getting a single penny, expressed her admiration for the superstar and said how special he was to the film industry.

Sarath Kumar and Radha Ravi also praised the superstar and recalled his contribution to Tamil films.

However, Rajinikanth turned 62 on December 12. The actor, who does not celebrate his birthday, appeared before media for a short speech.
