Rajinikanth and his punch dialogues!

Rajinikanth got the superstar status for his close-to-life roles, which were blended with his styles and punch dialogues. More importantly, he stood different from other actors for his unique mannerisms, and the style of mouthing dialogues that eventually brought him the name - Style King.

Rajinikanth's entry to films

Born on December 12, 1950, Rajinikanth did quite a few small jobs in Bangalore before entering films. His style and talent of tossing the cigarette to the lips were first spotted by legendary actor K Balachander at a stage play in Chennai.

This is the famous dialogue from Moondru Mugam directed by A Jagannathan. Rajinikanth did a triple role in the movie, which also featured Delhi Ganesh, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Sathyaraj and others.

This is a famous dialogue, which is popular among the current generation, mouthed by Rajinikanth. Directed by Suresh Krishna, the movie also featured Kushboo and Sarath Babu in the important roles.

It is the one-liner, which crossed the borders and reached the non-Tamilain communities. Looking at the response for the dialogues in his Annamalai, director Suresh Krishna made it a point to have a punch dialogue to suit the Rajini image.

KV Ravikumar directorial movie Muthu is a landmark movie is Rajinikanth's career and it was also dubbed into as Muthu Odoru Maharaja.

Having got mixed reviews, Arunachalam directed by Sundar C went on to win three Tamil Nadu State Government Awards including the Best Film Award. Rambha and late actress Soundarya were paired up in the movie.

Sivaji, directed by Shankar, was biggest grosser of its time and won lots of awards in various categories. The movie is now ready to release in 3D format.


Seeing his dedication and hunger to act in films, K Balachander himself introduced him to Tamil cinema in the movie Apoorva Raagangal, which also starred Kamal Hassan. The first positive role, which gave him the desired break was SP Muthuraman's Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri. However, it was Billa, which was probably his first commercial hit as a hero.

However, Rajinikanth's golden era of commercial films was between 1990-2000, where his most movies were blockbusters and brought him the 'superstar' status. In his three decades in film industry, he has acted in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, English and Bengali films.

During this time, the sexagenarian's one-liners and mannerisms won the hearts of the audience. It is because his dialogues in the movies often represented his lifestyle. In the last two decades, most filmmaker, who have directed him, have tried to bring in a punch to the one-liners that he mouth in their movies.
