Vijay
gave
a
nod
to
two
back-to-back
films
with
leading
names
in
2010.
The
first
one
was
Shankar
for
Nanban
and
the
second
was
AR
Murugadoss
for
Thuppakki,
which
was
announced
on
the
actor's
37th
birthday.
Having
worked
with
the
likes
of
Ajith
Kumar
and
Surya,
AR
Murugadoss
decided
to
direct
Vijay
after
the
actor's
father
SA
Chandrasekhar
approached
him.
The
film
was
supposed
to
be
produced
by
SA
Chandrasekhar
himself
but
he
backed
out
of
producing
film
and
the
project
fell
into
the
laps
of
Kalaipuli
S
Thanu.
Initially,
it
was
rumoured
that
the
film
was
titled
as
Maalai
Nerathu
Mazhaithuli
but
all
those
speculations
turned
false,
as
the
makers
of
the
film
zeroed
in
on
the
name
'Thuppakki'.
However,
the
title
remained
in
the
news
for
all
wrong
reasons
because
the
film
landed
in
trouble.
Ravi
Devan,
a
former
associate
of
Kamal
Hassan,
approached
the
court
and
brought
an
interim
injunction
restraining
makers
of
Thuppakki
from
using
the
title
and
its
logo
in
June
2012.
The
director
had
accused
that
he
had
registered
the
title
Kallathuppakki
in
the
year
2009.
As
his
film
was
on
the
verge
of
completion,
if
the
title
Thuppakki
was
given
to
them,
then
definitely
the
makers
of
Kallathuppakki
would
be
put
to
secure
loss
and
hardship.
However,
last
month,
both
the
parties
decided
to
compromise
and
resolved
the
issue.
Deepika,
Priyanka
And
Sonam
Like
every
big
star's
film,
Vijay's
Thuppakki
too
had
many
names
doing
rounds
over
the
film's
female
leads.
The
first
name
was
Deepika
Padukone,
who
is
making
her
Tamil
debut
in
Kochadaiyaan,
followed
by
Priyanka
Chopra
and
Sonam
Kapoor.
However,
Priyanka
and
Sonam
later
said
that
they
would
wish
to
work
with
Vijay
but
the
film
was
not
offered
to
them.
Angela,
Pranitha
And
Priya
Anand
Kingfisher
Calendar
model
Angela
Jonsson,
Pranitha
of
Saguni
fame
and
Priya
Anand's
name
were
doing
rounds
for
the
second
fiddle.
However,
it
was
Kajal
Aggarwal
and
model
Akshara
Gowda,
who
bagged
Thuppakki.

ARM
has
tried
to
give
a
realistic
approach
to
Thuppakki
by
shooting
some
scenes
in
busy
streets
with
hidden
cameras.
On
a
occasion,
Vijay
was
asked
to
switch
on
the
camera
and
perform
a
sequence
on
his
own
without
getting
the
public
attention.

Actors
getting
injured
on
sets
are
common
these
days.
Vijay
met
with
a

accident
and
hurt
his
knee.
Later,
he
went
to
London
to
undergo
a
treatment.
