Ilayathalapathy Vijay is fully charged up for his biggest-ever release of his life, Thuppakki. The actor, who is back with a bang with two back-to-back hits like Velayudham and Nanban, has teamed up with acclaimed director AR Murugadoss for the upcoming film.

After delivering a series of flops between 2008 and 2010, Vijay tasted a moderate success in Kaavalan. The actor, who had troubles over the release of this film, was working with new directors rather than established filmmakers.

However, Vijay choose to act with experienced directors after his several movies failed to impress the audience. After three years, the Ilayathalapathy signed a few films of big directors and came back to his winning ways in Velayduham. But it was Nanban that created history at the Box Office and reinstated his stardom.

As the actor is gearing up for the release of Thuppakki, we would like to remember some of the biggest hits of his life.

Vijay made his debut in Naalaya Theerpu in 1992 but it was Poove Unakkaga that gave him the break. It was his first commercial hit and helped him to get popular in other industries. The romantic film was produced by RB Choudhary (father of Jeeva) and directed by Vikraman.

Kadhalukku Mariyadhai

Kadhalukku Mariyadhai

Kadhalukku Mariyadhai was a remake of Malayalam superhit film Aniathipravu and it was directed by Fazil. Vijay had paired up with Shalini Ajith Kumar and the film had become one of the biggest hits of Tamil cinema in 1997-98.

Ghilli

Ghilli

Vijay and Trisha Krishnan starrer Ghilli redefined the actor's image as an action hero. The film directed by Dharani was a remake of Telugu film Okkadu. The punch dialogues and action sequences were the highlights of the film.

Pokkiri

Pokkiri

Telugu actor Mahesh Babu's film did wonder for Vijay again, as Pokkiri, which was a remake of Tollywood movie Pokiri, went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2007. The Tamil version was directed by Prabhu Deva.

Nanban

Nanban

Vijay's Nanban is said to be the biggest-ever commercial hit of his life. The movie, which was a remake of Hindi movie 3 Idiots, had record collections not only in Tamil Nadu but also in different parts of the world like Australia, UK and Malaysia. It has to be noted that the movie, which was aired on Vijay TV, garnered record TRPs.
