Vijay and Surya had a clash last year with their respective movies like Velayudham and 7aam Arivu, which simultaneously hit the screens for Diwali. This year too, they are all set for an exciting battle with their next movies, Thuppakki and Maatraan, which are releasing during the Independence Day.
The buzz is that the makers of both the films are trying hard to release their movies during the Independence Day to cash in on a five-day weekend. While AR Murugadoss had revealed before about his plans to release Thuppakki in August, now, KV Anand seems to be keen on releasing Maatraan at the same time. It is no wonder that these kind of clashes are often seen in film industry for getting a massive opening during holiday seasons.
Meanwhile, the makers of Thuppakki are planning to release the teaser and new posters of the film in the first week on July. On the other end, the movies bosses of Maatraan are all set to release the audio of the film on July 23.
Thuppakki is a gangster film set in the backdrop of Mumbai and centred around the life in the streets of the commercial capital. The film produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu also features dazzling Kajal Aggarwal, Vidyut Jamal, Akshara Gowda and others in the cast.
Whereas, Maatraan starring Surya and Kajal Aggarwal is an action-thriller directed by KV Anand. It has garnered the audience attention with the tag line 'Sometimes the End is just the Beginning.' The movie is produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram. It is interesting to note that Kajal plays the female lead in both the movies.
