Aamir Khan seems to have just registered a record-breaking opening for his Dhoom 3 in Tamil Nadu. The early reports from trade indicate that the Hindi movie has done a remarkable business in the state on the release day (December 20). The Bollywood flick, despite facing a lot of competition from local movies, has not only survived in the battle of collections at Box Office but also got a never-before opening for an Aamir Khan flick.
Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3 released in above 4500 screens worldwide and in Tamil Nadu, it released in above 150 screens, which itself is said to be a record. In the recent years, only handful of Bollywood movies like Shahrukh Khan's Chennai Express and Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, have crossed the 100-screen mark in Tamil Nadu.
The Bollywood Perfectionist's 3 Idiots was his last movie that had done well in Tamil Nadu. His Taare Zameen Par could only attract multiplex audience in Tamil Nadu. By any parameter, his latest Dhoom 3 is the biggest release for Aamir Khan in the Tamil-speaking state. The main success for this will obviously goes to distributor Sathyam Cinemas for having a wider release in the state. It has managed to get more than 150 screens even though there were a few Tamil big releases this weekend. Continue reading the story on the slideshow...

Tickets at AGS Cinemas OMR, Inox, PVR, Sathyam Cinemas and many other places have been sold well in advance. Even for Monday (December 23), 75% tickets have been sold.
Dhoom 3 In Demand
In order to meet the demand, multiplexes are forced to increase the number of screens. At least, there are 5 shows in each of the multiplexes in the city on the release day.
Local Movies Affect...
However, Dhoom 3 could have done a lot better if the film had a solo release in Tamil Nadu. Some of the presently-running local movies and new releases did not help the Hindi movie to get maximum screens.
Biriyani and Endrendrum Punnagai Affecting Dhoom 3
Karthi's Biriyani and Jeeva's Endrendrum Punnagai are hugely affecting the prospects of the Hindi movie at the Tamil Nadu Box Office.
Never Before Reception
A trader says, "Aamir Khan's movie was never welcomed in such manner in Tamil Nadu. It may be because many of his films were not dubbed in Tamil. But his Dhoom 3 is being dubbed in the local language,"
He concludes, "Hence the screen count in the state is crossed the 150 mark. And also the success of the Dhoom franchise has played a major role in getting maximum screens in the state."
Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3 is an action-thriller directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. It is produced by Yash Raj Films. The movie also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
