South Indian movies have viewers today all across the world. The Telugu and Tamil movies are now being watched in different parts of the world. This in turn has given good markets at various countries for our locally made movies. And now our flicks are ready to compete with each other at international platforms.
The movies made in Bollywood are ruling the market for over the decades. But now Tamil and Telugu movies are founding its feet internationally and have started setting records at Box Office. Though it is difficult to compare the markets of Bollywood and South films considering the huge population of Hindi-speaking people, one cannot easily downplay the big movies made in Telugu and Tamil film industries, as South movies, in the recent years, have done stupendous business.
Telugu V/s Tamil Movies
As the Bollywood is sitting pretty in number numero uno position, the battle for the second place is on. Telugu and Tamil movies are fighting for the next spot. But declaring the winner in the international arena will be a moot point for traders because the markets vary for Tollywood and Kollywood from region to region. If a Tamil movie has an upper hand in the UK, a Telugu movie will have a good market in the US and it all depends upon the population of the specific audience at a given country.
Comparision In Key Markets
Hence, it is difficult for any trader to analyse and announce the second winner. However, we could attempt to compare the Telugu/Tamil movies in key markets where both the industries could have a fair battle.
The Battle Ground - US
So, we have chosen the US as the battle ground. Without digging into the past reports, we are straight away arriving into the present on the Telugu movie Attarintiki Daredi records!
Attarintiki Daredi Creates History
Well, Attarintiki Daredi starring Pawan Kalyan has created a history at the US Box Office. The movie collected $15,22,734 (Rs 9.53 crores) from 94 screens at the USA Box Office in its opening weekend. It had raked in $220,000 from non-Rentrack screens. Its first weekend total stood at Rs 10.91 crores ($17,42,734).
AD Beat SVSC
In just four days, the movie became the all time highest grosser, beating the life-time record of Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh's Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, which had collected Rs 8.90 crores ($1,639,200) from 69 screens. The movie, so far, has raked in more than 16 crores at the US Box Office.
Arrambam Pitched Against AD
Now, Ajith Kumar's Tamil movie Arrambam is directly pitched against Attarintiki Daredi. GK Media has acquired the theatrical rights and it is planning to have a big release for the Kollywood flick.
GK Media Distributes Arrambam
So far, GK Media has booked 72 screens and it is still planning to release Arrambam in more number of screens in the US.
Arrambam 90+ Screens
GK Media is reportedly targetting to release in 90+ screens, which means Arrambam will almost battle it out with the same number of screens of Attarintiki Daredi (94 screens). Hence, the comparision will be fair.
Pawan Kalyan V/s Ajith Kumar
Like Pawan Kalyan, Ajith Kumar too is a big star and he is known as the King of Opening. His latest Tamil movie has generated enough hype to get wonderful opening with its promotional activities.
Big Cast For Arrambam
Arrambam also features Arya, Nayantara and Tapasee Pannu in the lead roles. And this star cast will be a big advatange for the movie, as the fans of the afore-mentioned stars will be most likely to throng into theatres.
Attarintiki Daredi & Arrambam
While Attarintiki Daredi was a mass movie, Arrambam is an action movie, which has bagged 'U' certificate from the Regional Censor Board.
Will Arrambam Break Attarintiki Daredi Records?
Will Arrambam break Attarintiki Daredi records? Let's leave it to the time to decide but hope positive will emerge for both the big industries.
