Venkat
Prabhu
became
one
of
the
most-sought
after
directors
after
his
run
away
hit
Mankatha
with
Ajith
Kumar.
After
the
massive
success
of
the
flick,
he
did
not
hurry
to
sign
any
movie
rather
he
took
his
own
time
to
come
up
with
a
good
script.
Then,
he
signed
Karthi
and
Hansika
Motwani
for
the
romantic-comedy
movie
Biriyani,
which
is
releasing
this
Friday
(December
20).
Prior
to
signing
Biriyani
to
Studio
Green,
Venkat
Prabhu
reportedly
planned
a
movie
with
Surya
for
the
same
production
house.
But
due
to
some
reasons,
the
project
was
delayed
and
the
director
choose
the
Ghajini
actor's
brother
Karthi
for
Biriyani.
He
retained
the
same
technical
team
(Musician
Yuvan
Shankar
Raja,
cinematographer
Sakthi
Saravanan,
editors
Praveen
KL
and
NB
Srikanth)
that
worked
with
him
in
Mankatha.
Samantha,
Parineeti
Chopra
and
Ileana
D'Cruz
were
considered
for
the
movie
but
Richa
Gangopadhyay
was
the
lucky
one
to
bag
the
flick.
The
actress
had
excitedly
spoken
about
Biriyani
but
she
was
shown
the
door
for
some
reasons
and
was
replaced
by
Hansika
Motwani.
Premji
Amaren,
who
was
seen
in
small
roles
in
Venkat
Prabhu's
earlier
movies,
was
roped
in
again.
This
time,
he
was
given
a
bigger
role.
The
shooting
was
officially
started
in
October
2012.
Biriyani
has
been
shot
in
Chennai,
Pondicherry,
Hyderabad,
Spain,
Portugal
and
other
places.
