Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, who committed suicide on Monday (June 3) at her residence in Mumbai, shot to fame with our own AR Murugadoss' 2008 blockbuster film Ghajini. Though she had earned rave reviews for her first Hindi film Nishabd directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the big break came with the Aamir Khan starrer film Ghajini.
Ghajini would be the best film, in terms of collections, in Jiah Khan's short career. She played the second fiddle in the Hindi film which was played by Nayantara in the original. It was a difficult job for AR Murugadoss back then to select a perfect face for the role, as Nayan's character was well-appreciated by media and fans down South.

The underlining point was that Nayantara was a popular name and had no qualms to play the second fiddle as it was a challenging role. The South actress came up with wonderful performance and won accolades. But Jiah Khan was a new face and it was believed that a newcomer would find it difficult to do justice to the role famously made by Nayan.
Well, Jiah Khan did it and rest became history. However, during the making, media had curiously questioned AR Murugadoss about roping in Jiah Khan. What did the director say? We are recalling it ...find it on the slideshow...
A Picture Taken During Ghajini Days
In one of the interviews, AR Murugadoss was asked - There were endless amounts of rumours in reference to the casting of Jiah Khan's role originally essayed by Nayantara. Did you really face a lot of hardship in the casting process for this role?
The Ghajini Celebration
Murugadoss had said, "Not really. We wanted to differentiate this role from the role of Kalpana, which was played by Asin. We tested lots of girls to get the right contrast from the look of Kalpana. Jiah was perfect and we selected her."
The Happy Moments Of Ghajini Team
In other interview, he was asked - What made you finalise Jiah Khan?
For Jiah's role, we had held auditions for which hundreds of girls had turned out. But, when Jiah stepped up, it was all settled. She was the one we were looking for! Her character in the film was a petite girl who's very intellectual. Jiah's appearance, charisma and the way she carried herself in the film was simply perfect.
Ghajini 200 Days Celebration
After the release, many praised the performance of the lead stars. Though Aamir Khan stole the show, Jiah Khan's mature performance was noticed by leading critics.
Jiah With Ghajini Team
From the seductress in Nishabd, Jiah went onto play a girl next door in this movie, and received accolades for a natural performance. Her other successful movie was Housefull 2.
Upon looking at her performance, Taran Adarsh, a leading Bollywood critic, had a special mention about the actress. In his review, he wrote, "Jiah Khan impresses, especially in the sequence when Aamir follows her to a shopping mall."
We at Oneindia mourn the death of Jiah Khan and pray that her soul rest in peace.
