Kamal Hassan Refuses To Comment On Narendra Modi

Kamal Hassan was in Bangalore to attend a programme organised by Press Club of Bangalore and Bangalore Reporters' Guild. At the occasion, he spoke on various issues including Vishwaroopam 2, controversies and politics.

When a reporter asked Kamal Hassan whether he would join politics, the actor said that he is not interested in it. The Universal star was quizzed whether he would endorse Narendra Modi's development model and about his view on the Gujarat Chief Minister. He refused to comment and replied, "I would definitely answer by voting, but I won't discuss it in public."

On asking whether his forthcoming Vishwaroopam 2 would face problems like its first instalment, Kamal Hassan said, "How do you take care of controversies? How do you take care of intolerance? It is very difficult to take care of intolerance. The only thing I can do is, I don't become intolerant!"

Kamal Hassan reinstated that he would leave the country if he faces such a situation again. "I will not take back that word. If I am threatened or troubled again as an artiste, I can leave the country. But can the country leave me?" Hassan said. The actor said that he was pained by the developments during Vishwaroopam. Filmmaker and actor Kamal Hassan has said that he is planning to do a Tamil movie in Karnataka as he wants bilinguals to reach out to larger audience in the south. "We are planning to do a movie. We want to do it in Karnataka," he said.

Kamal Hassan said he does not like the idea of calling the entire film industry in India as Bollywood. "Actually, more than 50 per cent of films (of the total number in India) come from South of India and the film industry is known as one name - Bollywood, which I think is a misnomer. It is (actually) Mumbai film industry," he said.

He said, "Hollywood is a small village which became international, and we are one big country and we should become international. My goal is Hollywood will shift to India if you work on it." Hassan has completed the shooting schedule of Vishwaroopam 2, which is an espionage thriller written and directed by him.

Earlier, Hassan announced that FICCI Media and Entertainment Business Conclave would be held in Bangalore on October 29 and 30, under his chairmanship. "This year the focus of the conclave will be on the effective proliferation of meaningful content in the backdrop of digital technologies and the array of new media," he said.

"Traditional platforms have been disrupted and new methods for the future need to be adopted in order to be creating and monetising content. For this, skill development for the industry need special discussion and a roadmap and the conclave has a dedicated session on this apart from covering all sub-sectors of the entertainment industry in its ambit," Hassan said.
