Lakshmi Rai has filed a lawsuit against a popular Tamil weekly after it published a controversial story. A court has restrained the weekly from publishing any article about the actress.
The Mankatha girl moved the court on the cover story published by the weekly with the cover page titled 'Ore Arayil Herovudan Thanginal Thappa?' (Is it wrong to stay with a hero in a room?). The actress demanded Rs 30 lakhs compensation for defaming her and sought an unconditional apology from the weekly.
She has managed to get a favourable verdict as the court has passed an interim injunction not to write anything about her until further orders. Her counsel Abudukumar Rajarathinam argued that the article has spoiled her image in the minds of public, family and friends.
The weekly reported in the issue dated February 27 and March 6 that Lakshmi Rai and Vinay had stayed together in a room recently. In fact, it claimed that the actress had questioned whether staying with a hero in a room was wrong? In the cover page story, the weekly claimed Mankatha girl as saying that there was nothing wrong if two friends stay in the same room with good intentions and people should not make it a controversial issue.
