Paradesi off to a good start at Box Office

Director Bala is a happy man as his movie Paradesi has not only won thumbs up from critics but also from the audience. Adding to that, the film has won a National Award in Best Costume Design department. More importantly, the film, which has an off-beat content, is doing well at the Box Office, thereby bringing a smile on the face of the movie bosses.

On the release day, Paradesi got above average response in Chennai and many parts of Tamil Nadu. The evening shows on Friday showed improvement. However, it was on the weekends that the Tamil flick showed substantial growth. The response from multiplex audience was better than single screens cine-goers.

The average occupancy is expected to be above 55-60% in Tamil Nadu and around 75% in and around Chennai. According to traders, the film is expected to have raked in above Rs 4 crores in the state. Continue reading the story on the slideshow...

Paradesi, directed by Bala, is based on the novel 'Eriyum Panikadu' - a Tamil translation of the 1969 novel Red Tea by Paul Harris Daniel. It is about the affliction of tea plantation workers of pre-independent India.
