Pictures: Salman Khan watches Kamal's Vishwaroopam

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan watched Kamal Hassan's controversial film Vishwaroopam at Ketnav in Bandra, Mumbai on Friday (February 1) night along with actress Rekha. A special screening was organised by the Tamil actor after Salman showed interest in watching the film.

Reports claim that Salman Khan asked Kamal Hassan to screen the film for which the Tamil superstar agreed and premièred the film in Mumbai. They watched the Hindi version of Vishwaroopam and Sallu, who openly supported Kamal Hassan over the ban on the flick, was impressed by the multilingual film. Vishwaroopam also features Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose and Andrea Jeremiah in important roles.

Later, Kamal Hassan said that Salman Khan liked the film a lot and he felt that the film is of Hollywood standards. "He (Salman) liked it immensely. He thinks it is of Hollywood standards. A few days before the screening, Salman Khan joined in the list of celebrities, who came out in support of superstar Kamal Hassan over the on the big-budget film Vishwaroopam.

"It is just a movie and there are only two kinds of movies good or bad, hit and flop and only people who decide are ones who buy tickets. Hope each and every fan of his supports him like I am doing and want all my fans to fully support him," Salman posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The 47-year-old also requested people to stand outside cinema halls and insist on watching the movie. "Then go stand outside the cinema hall and insist on seeing the film, its a movie dude, entertainment, what law and order problem on a movie? Go there insist that you wanna see it, there is a supreme court judgement after the film is censored no body can stop it."

However, the film was banned by the Tamil Nadu after several Muslim groups objected the film claiming that the film shows their community in a bad taste.

Ending a week-long suspense and drama, Kamal Hassan's controversial Tamil film Vishwaroopam is finally poised for release in the state with some cuts after the actor and Muslim groups opposed to it reached a settlement during the state-government brokered talks here on Saturday (February 2) .

The multi-lingual film, originally slated for release on January 25, has been released and running smoothly in other states including Kerala with a 25 per cent Muslim population, and Andhra and Karnataka. Its Hindi version Vishwaroop hit theatres in north India on February 1 which, according to Hassan, had evoked 'fantastic' response.

The case is coming up on February 6 for hearing before the single judge to whom the division bench reverted the matter. Anguished and hurt, a 'fed up' Hassan threatened 'self-exile' to move to a 'secular place' in the country excluding Tamil Nadu, or overseas as done by late painter M F Hussain following opposition by right wing groups to his nude paintings of Hindu gods and goddesses.

However, the fans may have to wait a little longer to watch the film, originally slated to hit theatres in the state on January 25, as certain procedures remain to be completed.
