Vishwaroopam is all set to release in Tamil Nadu today (February 7). The film, which was delayed due to controversial content, is finally seeing the light of the day in about 500 screens.
The film, which was supposed to be released on January 11, was postponed due to Kamal Hassan's DTH (Direct to Home) plans. The idea was opposed by the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association (TNTOA) and they threatened to boycott the film. As a result, the release got pushed to January 25 and the actor was forced to drop his plans.
However, just when the film was about to release on the announced date, the state government banned Vishwaroopam after several Muslim groups opposed the film citing that the movie shows their community in bad taste. This delayed the film further even though the film was released in other parts of the country after initial hurdles.
After making Tamil Nadu audience wait for a few weeks, Vishwaroopam will be finally releasing today in the state. As the industry men supported him during the tough times and expressed their wish to watch the film, a special screening was organised last evening.
Nadigar Sangam Chief Sarath Kumar with his wife Radhika, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Cheran, Jayaram with his family, Madhan Karky and Nandini Karky, Sibiraj, comedian Vivek, Kushboo, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja, Arun Vijay, Keethana Parthiban, Raaki Parthiban, RK Selvamani, Santhana Bharathi, Chaaru Haasan, Mumtaj, AP Sreedhar, Yuki Sethu, Ramkumar, Sree Priya, Dhusyant Ramkumar, Shobi and Lalitha, Sve Sekhar and Ashwin Sekhar were seen at the special screening.
