After a delay of 11 days, Ilayathalapathy Vijay starrer Thalaivaa is all set to release in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on August 20. The movie is likely to hit 500 screens across the state.
"Yes. The release date is August 20. It is confirmed," AL Vijay, Director of the film Thalaivaa told PTI.
Director said the tag line 'Time to Lead' has been removed from all publicity materials and promotional content following a 'request' from Vendhar Movies, who is the distributors for the film.
On the number of theatres the film is likely to be screened, Amma Creations Siva, an associate of Vendhar Movies, said the film will be screened in 500 halls in Tamil Nadu.
The film, with Ilayathalapthy Vijay and Amala Paul in the lead roles, was expected to be released on August 9, but had been stalled in the backdrop of bomb threats from a little known outfit opposed to Vendhar Movies.
Two days before its scheduled release, Thalaivaa was stalled from being released when a political outfit issued bomb threats to theatre owners in Chennai.
On August 7, a student union named, Oppressed Students Revolutionary Force, threatened few theatres in Chennai, following which the theatre owners decided to stop the advance booking process. (Inputs from PTI)

Distributor company Vendhar Movies is owned by SRM Group which is one of the biggest educational institutions in Tamil Nadu.
Students Union Claimed
Oppressed Students Revolutionary Force claimed that the income tax on the money invested by the distributor of the film Vendhar Movies has been evaded. Besides, the money has been earned by exploiting students of SRM group of educational institutions.
Theatre Owner's Demanded
Theatre Owners in Chennai, demanded government to provide Police Security to all the cinema halls where Thalaivaa will be screened.
Theatre Owners also requested actor Vijay and his father SA Chandrasekhar along with the director AL Vijay to seek the government's intervention in the matter.
Petition On Thalaivaa
Director AL Vijay and producer Chandraprakash Jain also received a notice from Chennai City Civil Court, on the grounds of the petition filed by SKR Karnan, in which he claimed that Thalaivaa has depicted Tamil leaders in the poor light.
SKR Karnan also claimed that story is based on the life of his grandfather SS Kandaswamy and father SSK Ramaswamy who lived in Dharavi, Mumbai.
Vijay Emotional Speech
Talking on the Thalaivaa release issue, Ilayathalapathy Vijay made an emotional speech on Wednesday, August 14. In which the actor had requested his fans to inform police if they witness anybody selling pirated DVDs or CDs of Thalaivaa.
Thalaivaa, which was released in other states and overseas markets, has led pirated DVDs and CDs to make its way to Tamil Nadu.
Thalaivaa features Vijay, Amala Paul, Ragini Nandwani, Sathyaraj and Abhimanyu Singh. And it is directed by AL Vijay.

The movie has cleared all the hurdles and is all set to release in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on August 20.
