Illayathalapathy Vijay may be going through troubles for the release of his much-hyped Thalaivaa in Tamil Nadu, but his movie has been released worldwide with ease. Well, the Kollywood film has set the Box Office on fire. The star power of the actor is working big time again despite the film getting mixed reviews from audience and critics.
On the release day (August 9), Thalaivaa got a thunderous response from the audience in Kerala. The film has collected Rs 1.12 crore in the region. The movie saw the light of day in God's Own Country in 120 theatres. As the movie was not released in Tamil Nadu, people from the border regions of the state (Kerala-TN) travelled to the neighbouring state to watch Vijay's movie.
A theatre owner in Kerala said, "There were huge demands for the tickets of Thalaivaa. More than the local audience, it was fans of Illayathalapathy from Tamil Nadu who created such a massive demand for the tickets. The reason is well known; the film isn't released in its own state. It was a great day for the distributor on the release day due to this factor." Reports say that the Thalaivaa magic continued on Saturday and Sunday too. International Box Office
In the International arena, Thalaivaa has taken a super start in the UK and USA. Critic and trader Taran Adarsh confirmed the same on Twitter.
Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Tamil film #Thalaivaa has taken a super start in UK. Thu previews till Sat total: £ 82,506 [Rs 77.88 lacs]. Excellent!"
Early reports emerging from Malayasia, Singapore, Australia and other countries say that Thalaivaa has been overwhelmingly welcomed by audience in those countries too.
Meanwhile, the confusion over the release of Thalaivaa in Tamil Nadu continued as the makers of the film are yet to announce the date. In fact, nobody is clear as to why the film has been stalled.
It is believed that the makers of the Thalaivaa are fighting to get clean 'U' certificate for the movie. The Regional Censor Board has given 'U/A' to the movie.
30% Tax Exemption
If the movie is given 'U' certificate, it will get the 30% tax exemption from the government. Hence, the makers of the movie are reportedly fighting to get 'U' certificate.
Meanwhile, the absence of Thalaivaa has helped Hindi movie Chennai Express to get a grand opening in Tamil Nadu. The movie stars Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the leads.
