Ajith Kumar and Shalini fell in love during the making of their movie Amarakalam. It was a kind of instant love sparked between the couple. The actors often hit headlines about their relationship. Finally, they confirmed their love and tied the knot on April 24, 2000.

As it was an inter-religion relationship, Ajith Kumar (Hindu) and Shalini (Christian) had their marriage as per both the Hindu and Christian customs. Post the wedding, the actress finished her two committed projects and bid goodbye to films.
